AABPS Press Release

January 11, 2021

Columbus, OH

A place for us. American Association for Black Physicians, a non-profit whose purpose is to create a place for the rare black physician-scientist. Black and African-Americans are under-represented in both medicine and STEM and are even more so for those who set forth to tackle both. Blacks holding MD and MD/PhD pursuing biomedical research make up less than a percentage of practicing physicians, but AABPS seeks to find and connect these individuals creating a community for support and growth from aspirating, training and practicing black physician-scientists.

Membership applications are now open which will begin to facilitate connections through a collective database. AABPS will be highlighting members and aspiring stories from faculty who have made it through the incredible difficult and long pipeline. Mentorship, valuable resources and community is just the beginning of AABPS offerings.

With the official launch, AABPS released an interview with the phenomenal Dr. Kerry-Ann Mitchell. Chief Marketing Officer, Shane Scott sits down with Dr. Mitchell to discuss her 20 year training, science and their Jamaican bond. The full video is accessible for members-only on the AABPS website.
